Organisers of the 2022 International University Sports Federation (FISU) World Forum in Costa Rica have met with representatives of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) to discuss plans for the event.

The 2020 FISU World Forum took place in Budapest in August 2020 but was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Scheduled for alternate years, with a FISU University Games taking place in the other years, the 2022 FISU World Forum is due to take place from April 8 to 12 2022 in Costa Rica.

Six months before the event, organisers met with UNESCO at the university campus of Tecnológico de Costa Rica in Cartago to discuss plans for the four sub-themes that will be considered - education, health and wellness, gender equality and reduction of inequalities.

These themes are also a part of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

In attendance at the meeting included UNESCO representative Andrea Gisselle Burbano Fuertes and 2022 FISU World Forum director and member of the FISU Executive Committee Rosaura Mendez.

Both worked closely with the Costa Rican University Sports Federation to "ensure that goals and objectives of the 2022 FISU World Forum are achieved," it is claimed.

More than 200 participants, including students, sports managers, federations and academic speakers, from over 60 countries are set to attend.

The FISU World Forum aims to "combine academic sessions with cultural, educational and sporting activities".

The event, it is claimed, is "a powerful communication platform for the various university sports communities".
