China is currently experiencing an outbreak in COVID-19 cases with health officials reporting 39 new domestic infections.

The cases were found in tests as part of China's zero-tolerance approach, with just over 100 days until the start of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

As a result, the Beijing Marathon was postponed indefinitely.

China has stuck to the highly stringent strategy by implementing harsh lockdowns, mass testing and pursuing large vaccination drives - about 75.6 per cent of China's population have received complete vaccine doses.

The country is set to host a number of international sporting events in the coming year with Government officials eager to stamp out any threats towards hosting.

The Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games are scheduled to take place from September 10 to 25 2022.

Hangzhou is set to be the third Chinese city to host the Asian Games after Beijing in 1990 and Guangzhou in 2010.
