The International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) has announced the cancellation of its 2021 World Senior and Junior Championships due to the coronavirus situation in Kazakhstan.

Competition was set to take place at the Barys Arena in Nur-Sultan from November 27 to December 4.

The country has reported more than 934,000 cases including more than 1,600 in the past 24 hours.

There have been more than 12,000 deaths from coronavirus in Kazakhstan, including 27 in the past 24 hours.

In a statement IMMAF told insidethegames: "Unfortunately, despite every effort, IMMAF's 2021 World Championships, scheduled for the end of November in Nur Sultan, had to be cancelled due to the situation with the pandemic there.

"IMMAF has been working hard to rearrange the World Championships for early next year and is expecting to be able to make an announcement very soon."

The IMMAF World Championships were held every year between 2014 and 2019 but have now been absent from the sport's calendar the last two years.

The 2021 IMMAF Youth World Championships went ahead earlier this year in Sofia.
