Tickets for the Munich 2022 European Championships have been released, with prices beginning at €10 (£8.46/$11.65).

As well as 176 medal events across nine sports, fans can also visit The Roofs - said to be a "festival of diversity and surprises".

Organisers are expecting to welcome approximately one million visitors across the whole event.

Day tickets are available in addition to championship tickets for individual sports, while there are combined passes on offer for some events, such as the decathlon.

In cooperation with ClimatePartner, organisers have calculated the spectators' average carbon dioxide footprint and will give ticket-buyers the opportunity to offset this with a voluntary contribution to climate protection.

"The 50th anniversary of the Summer Olympic Games in Munich is just around the corner," said Dieter Reiter, Munich's Lord Mayor.

"What better way to celebrate the anniversary than with a sporting event like the European Championships.

"With the start of advance ticket sales, Munich 2022 is now a decisive step closer.

"Every sports enthusiast can secure tickets and look forward to exciting competitions at various sports venues in the city.

"The many free offers round off the programme of the European Championships Munich 2022 perfectly and underline the inclusive and sustainable character of the event.

"The anticipation in our city is rising!"

A number of events, such as marathon and race walking in athletics, BMX freestyle, mountain bike cross-country, road cycling and triathlon will be accessible free of charge.

This is further extended to selected sessions in beach volleyball and sport climbing, as well as to The Roofs festival.

Next year's event will take place from August 11 to 21.

It is the second edition of the European Championships, with Berlin and Glasgow co-hosting the inaugural event in 2018.
