Germany added four-man and two-woman bobsleigh titles to their two-man success at the season-opening International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation World Cup event in Innsbruck.

Francesco Friedrich and Alexander Schueller triumphed in the first two-man competition of the campaign yesterday.

And the pair helped to propel the German four-man team, also featuring Candy Bauer and Thorsten Margis, to success in the Austrian venue.

Friedrich’s team recorded a winning time of 1min 41.31sec after runs of 50.54sec and 50.77.

There were two German teams on the podium as Johannes Lochner, Christopher Weber, Erec Maximilian Bruckert and Christian Rasp claimed silver with 1:41.57.

They shared second place with Brad Hall, Nick Gleeson, Greg Cackett and Taylor Lawrence of Britain.

Friedrich is the reigning Olympic two-man and four-man champion pilot.

Germany had further joy when European champions Laura Nolte and Leonie Fiebig emerged victorious in the opening women’s two-woman event of the season.

Nolte and Fiebig secured victory with 1:46.22, beating compatriots Kim Kalicki and Anabel Galander who registered 1:46.39.

Third place went to Canada’s Christine de Bruin and Kristen Bujnowski who clocked 1:46.51.

Innsbruck is due to stage the next leg of the Bobsleigh World Cup from November 27 to 28.
