China is set to stage its first Wanda Diamond League meeting since 2019 after being named on the calendar for the 2022 season, it has been announced by World Athletics here.

Two meetings are due to be held in the Asian nation, with the first set for Shanghai on July 30 followed by another in unconfirmed Chinese location on August 6.

The Diamond League has confirmed that it will stop at 14 cities in four different continents as the track and field one-day meeting series returns for its 13th annual cycle.

Athletes are set to compete for points in 13 series meetings from May to September, with the most successful qualifying for the two-day season finale in Zurich in Switzerland and a shot at the prestigious Diamond Trophy.

The season is scheduled to open in Qatari capital Doha on May 13 before heading to either Birmingham or London in England eight days later.

Athletes will have the chance to test out the host venue for the 2022 World Athletics Championships when the series arrives in Eugene in the United States on May 28.

They are then due to visit Rabat in Morocco on June 5 before returning to Europe for the rest of the month.

Meetings are planned for Rome in Italy on June 9, Oslo in Norway on June 16, Paris in France on June 18 and Stockholm in Sweden on June 30.

After the World Athletics Championships, scheduled to be held from July 15 to 24, the Diamond League is due to visit China twice.

Further events are set to take place in Monaco on August 10 and Lausanne in Switzerland on August 26 before the last series meeting in Brussels in Belgium on September 2.

Athletes who have picked up enough points will then head to Zurich, where the 32 Diamond League champions will be crowned at a two-day season finale on September 7 and 8.

Further information on the allocation of disciplines is expected to be released before the end of next month.

The Diamond League said that the calendar remained subject to changes depending on the global health situation in 2022.
