The United States defeated Chinese Taipei in a preview of tomorrow's gold-medal match at the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Women's Under-18 Softball World Cup.

Entering today's dead-rubber round-robin match, the two teams boasted a 100 per cent record.

They had already secured their place in the gold-medal match, but wanting to make a statement before tomorrow's final, the US came out on top today.

The US defeated Chinese Taipei 9-2 in six innings, finishing the round-robin stage undefeated with a 7-0 record.

Chinese Taipei lost just once in the round-robin, to the US, but will have to go one step better tomorrow to end the US' hopes of winning their fourth successive title.

Earlier in the day, Puerto Rico squeezed past the Czech Republic 4-3 to claim their place in the bronze-medal match.

There, they will face Mexico, who face hosts Peru in the late game.
