Pyeongchang 2018 bronze medallists Japan beat silver medallists South Korea at the World Curling Federation Olympic Qualification Event as both look to secure their places at the Beijing 2022 Olympics.

South Korea topped the standings before the day's action, with both teams entering today with one loss, but it was Japan who got the better of the "Garlic Girls", who reached fame in Pyeongchang as they won the silver medal.

Japan won 8-4 in their only game of the day.

Both they and South Korea have now secured their place in the playoffs, though the winner of the round-robin stage will secure their place at Beijing 2022 without having to compete, so there is still value in pursuing the top spot.

Another team that has secured a playoff place is Scotland, who first beat Estonia 9-2 in the morning session as Latvia suffered a shock loss to Germany to drop to fourth, before then defeating Latvia 9-5 in the evening session.

Italy took advantage of Latvia's struggles, securing a 12-4 win over Turkey and a 7-6 win over Germany to move into fourth.

The women's round-robin stage concludes tomorrow, with a crucial match between Italy and Scotland set to have a major impact on the standings.

In the men's competition, Norway confirmed their place at Beijing 2022 with a 7-4 win over Finland, their seventh win from seven games.

Italy secured their place in the playoffs, with a 7-2 win over the Czech Republic and 7-6 win over Germany.

The final two spots in the playoffs will be tight as Japan moved to 3-3 with an 11-5 win over The Netherlands.

They, Denmark and the Czech Republic will fight it out in the final two sessions tomorrow, with Denmark and the Czech Republic facing one another in the evening session.
