Scotland's Peter Wright won his second World Darts Championship title thanks to a sensational comeback as he beat England's Michael Smith today.

In a behemoth final, Wright fell 5-4 down in sets and 2-0 in legs and was on the verge of letting his opponent move to within one set of victory.

But the 2020 world champion brilliantly rallied in the 10th set, breaking Smith's throw on two occasions to reel off three-straight legs and get back to 5-5.

From a position of ascendency, Smith would win just one more leg in the entire match as Wright produced set averages of around 110 to storm to victory.

The Scot eventually won 7-5, lifting his second world trophy and damning Smith to his second defeat in the World Championship final.

The event was marred by a COVID-19 breakout, including forcing Dutch three-time world champion and one of the big favourites to win at Alexandra Palace in London Michael van Gerwen to withdraw.

Wright and Smith were the two best performers of the tournament throughout, but it was the former who got the better of his English rival on the final night of pulsating action.
