Marte Olsbu Røiseland of Norway is hopeful a strong week of performances at the next stop on the Biathlon World Cup calendar in Ruhpolding will help propel her to her first overall title.

Røiseland arrives for the latest event on the circuit having won the sprint-pursuit double in Oberhof at the weekend.

The Norwegian, a double Olympic medallist and multiple world relay champion, will be in action for the last time prior to the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing at the event in Ruhpolding, which begins tomorrow.

She has decided not to compete at the final event before the opening of Beijing 2022 on February 4, the World Cup in Antholz-Anterselva in Italy from January 20 to 23.

"I will skip the Antholz-Anterselva week, which makes me sad," Røiseland said.

"It is my favourite venue, after all."

Røiseland, second on the overall standings last season, occupies top spot on the leaderboard with 537 points.

The 31-year-old is 88 clear of nearest challenger Elvira Öberg of Sweden going into the World Cup at the German venue, which includes sprint, relay and pursuit races for men and women.

Quentin Fillon Maillet of France remains the one to beat in the race for the overall men's title.

The French biathlete has 461 points, 12 in front of compatriot Emilien Jacquelin in second.

Sprint races are scheduled to take place on the opening day of the Ruhpolding World Cup tomorrow.
