Seven women's and seven men's teams are set to compete at the World Curling Federation (WCF) World Qualification Event, with two spots in each tournament available for the World Curling Championships in March and April respectively.

Initially, there were 16 teams set to travel to Finland for the event at the Kisakallio Sports Institute, but the Brazilian men and Kazakhstan women's teams were unable to travel due to COVID-19 complications.

Four teams qualified respectively from Europe in both tournaments, as well as hosts Finland.

Two teams from the Pacific-Asia and one from the Americas also booked their spot at the World Qualification Event.

The winners and runners-up of both tournaments qualify for the World Women's Curling Championship scheduled to take place in Prince George from March 19 to 27, and the World Men's Curling Championship in Las Vegas, scheduled for April 2 to 10.

Czech Republic, Denmark, Latvia and Norway are all qualified for the women's event, along with Hong Kong and Brazil.

The Netherlands, Russia, Spain and Turkey are competing in the men's tournament with Japan and Chinese Taipei.

A round-robin format is set to start tomorrow, concluding on Friday (January 21).

The following day, the top two teams are to play each other, with the winner qualifying for the World Championships.

This means the loser takes on the third-ranked team for the second world spot, also taking place on Saturday (January 22).
