There was disappointment for hosts Malaysia, however, as they were trounced by Bangladesh at the Kinrara Academy Oval in Kuala Lumpur.

Malaysia were restricted to 49-9 with Rumana Ahmed and Suraiya Azmin both claiming two wickets apiece.

Bangladesh lost two wickets in reply but Shamima Sultana and Murshida Khatun steered them to an emphatic eight-wicket win with scores of 28 and 14 respectively.

Chamari Athapaththu top scored with 86 before Sri Lanka skittled Scotland for 73 in a 109-run triumph.

Sri Lanka suffered the early loss of opener Vishmi Gunaratne as Scotland looked to gain a foothold in the match.

But Athapaththu put Sri Lanka on top with superb scoring alongside Hasini Perera who took their side to 124-1.

Athapaththu and Perera were then dismissed in quick succession before Harshitha Madavi was removed for 23.

Nilakshi de Silva and Ama Kanchana finished not out on 23 and 11 respectively as Sri Lanka posted a score of 184-4.

Sri Lanka then tore through Scotland’s battling line-up with Udeshika Prabodhani, Kanchana and Sachini Nisansala all claiming a brace of wickets.

Ellen Watson showed some resistance for Scotland as she notched an unbeaten 30 before retiring hurt.

"We didn’t bowl that well, we were bowling two sides of the wicket and we dropped their best player a couple of times which was disappointing, but there were some positives with the ball and we fought back," said Scotland head coach Mark Coles.

The five-nation event is scheduled to continue tomorrow with Bangladesh due to meet Kenya and Malaysia set to face Malaysia.
