Riiber had missed the last four events due to a recurring back injury but was back with a bang on the Toni-Seelos-Olympiaschanze for the Nordic Combined Triple, which features 7.5 kilometres, 10km and 12.5km events from tomorrow until Sunday (January 30).

Germany's Terence Weber and Kristjan Ilves of Estonia made up the podium with 113.7 and 113.6 points, respectively.

Riiber has been battling for pole position all season with Austria's Johannes Lamparter, who finished in a disappointing fourth place in the warm-up round. 

The Austrian currently occupies top spot in the men's FIS Nordic Combined World Cup standings with 800 points to Riiber's 700.

Pyeongchang 2018 silver medallist Riiber dominated the early stages of the season, winning seven of the opening eight events.

The 20-year-old Lamparter then recorded four successive top-two finishes to leapfrog his rival in the overall standings when Riiber was out through injury.

Riiber is the defending World Cup champion.

German veteran Eric Frenzel is also one to watch.

The 33-year-old won five Nordic Combined Triple crowns in a row from 2014 to 2018 and is thought of as a dark horse for this year's event in Seefeld.

Frenzel has also won 13 World Cups on the Toni-Seelos-Olympiaschanze and been on the podium 16 times, the most of any athlete at any venue in Nordic Combined World Cup history.

Seefeld is hosting the first World Cup event since Klingenthal on January 16 as the Planica competition was cancelled due to COVID-19.

It will also be the last leg before the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games.
