Bjøntegaard shot clean on his way to recording an impressive victory in the men's 10 kilometres race as he crossed the line in 26min 39.4sec.

The Norwegian finished 20.6sec clear of nearest challenger Nikita Porshnev of Russia, who took silver.

The bronze medal went to Germany's Lucas Fratzscher, who ended the race a further 2.3 adrift of the victorious Bjøntegaard.

"I am very happy," said Bjøntegaard.

"Already yesterday I was very nervous about the race today because I knew that the course would be really tough and also with some snow coming down didn’t make things any easier. 

"Then we had also a lot of wind on the shooting range, so it was really difficult and really big challenge today. 

"I am super happy to put a performance like this together and show what I’ve got."

Femsteinevik completed the Norwegian double by winning the women's 7.5km race in a time of 21:52.7.

She also shot clean despite the conditions and finished 3.7 ahead of Franziska Hildebrand of Germany.

Hildebrand's team-mate Janina Hettich added another medal for Germany as she finished third, 25.9 behind Femsteinevik.

The IBU Open European Championships at the German venue are due to continue with the men's and women's pursuits tomorrow.
