Ireland had not reached a women's final since 2019, but marked the occasion with a stunning performance to defeat England 29-0 at the Estadio Olímpico de la Cartuja.

Amee-Leigh Murphy Crowe and Beibhinn Parsons both scored two tries, with Lucy Mulhall grabbing the other and adding two conversions to Ireland's score.

Series leaders Australia, who won the first two tournaments of the campaign in Dubai but had to settle for third in Malaga last weekend, were back in the final after coming from behind to beat the United States.

The US were victors at the last event 200 kilometres further east, and led 14-7 at the break as tries from Kris Thomas and Jaz Gray overturned Tia Hands' early converted effort for Australia.

Faith Nathan and Maddison Levi crossed the whitewash in the second half with Hinds adding the extras to put Australia 21-14 ahead, but the US had the opportunity to level after a late try from Naya Tapper.

However, this was not converted, and the Australians held on to win 21-19.

Parsons and Stacey Flood had Ireland dreaming as two early tries put them 12-0 to the good in the final.

Nathan dragged Australia back to 12-5 at the break, before player of the match Dominique du Toit's converted try levelled the scores.

In the final play of the match, Australia worked an opening for Nathan to deliver the telling blow and clinch a dramatic 17-12 victory.

England beat the US 19-12 to take bronze in Seville.

In the men's tournament, South Africa extended their series winning streak to 34 matches as comfortable victories over Ireland in the semi-finals and Australia in the final extended their overall lead to 18 points.

Christie Grobbelaar, Shaun Williams, Justin Geduld and Selvyn Davids were all on the scoresheet in a 26-0 triumph over Ireland, but the Blitzboks fell behind in the final as Ben Dowling put Australia in front.

However, tries either side of halftime from player of the final Grobbelaar put them into the lead, and they did not look back as further efforts from Ryan Oosthuizen, Darren Adonis and Impi Visser wrapped up a 33-7 win.

Australia had impressively seen off Olympic bronze medallists Argentina 28-12 at the semi-final stage, but their opponents recovered to earn a 12-5 comeback win in the bronze-medal match against Ireland.

The Sevens Series is scheduled to resume in April, with Singapore scheduled to stage the next men's tournament and Langford in Canada the next women's event.
