Germany’s Hannah Neise produced the best performance of her career when it mattered most as she captured the women’s skeleton gold at the Winter Olympics here, while Jaclyn Narracott made history for Australia.

Neise, a 2016 Youth Olympic Games silver medallist, is yet to register a win on the World Cup circuit but hit a purple patch at exactly the right time.

After finishing eighth in the first run, the 21-year-old produced the quickest time in the next three, including a track record of 1min 1.44sec in the third.

Neise clocked 1:01.61 in the final run to finish with a combined winning time of 4:07.62.

Narracott sealed silver with 4:08.24, while Kimberley Bos of The Netherlands finished on 4:08.46 for bronze.

"It is mind-blowing," said Neise.

"I can't realise it right now.

"It's an unbelievable feeling.

"I felt very confident, especially today.

"I don't know how to describe it.

"I worked a lot on my mental health and it was on point today."

Neise’s victory continues Germany’s dominance in sliding sports after Christopher Grotheer’s success in the men’s event and a clean sweep of gold medals for the nation’s luge team.

"It means a lot, especially for skeleton sliders," said Neise.

"We haven't had so many medals in the past years, and we are very proud to represent our country and our federation.

"It's a step forward for us."

Narracott, who triumphed in Swiss city St Moritz in the final World Cup race of the season last month, became the first Australian to win a skeleton Olympic medal.

"Its still so surreal," said Narracott.

"That's the most relaxed I've felt on the sled, probably my whole career.

"I had nothing to lose.

"I knew that if I was just relaxed, and feel what I've been doing for the last three months, it would be OK."

Bos, who leads the World Cup rankings, continued her stunning season with an Olympic bronze medal.
