World number 10 Fares Dessouky has won squash's Canary Wharf Classic, triumphing in straight games in an all-Egyptian final against Mostafa Asal.

The Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Tour Gold event was staged at the East Wintergarden in London.

Asal, ranked fourth in the world, came through a mammoth five-game semi-final against Peru's Diego Elias last night, but his exertions perhaps took their toll in the decider, with Dessouky in control throughout.

Dessouky triumphed 11-5 in the first game, but had to save game balls to prevent Asal from levelling the contest.

He then prevailed 13-11 in the tiebreak to take a two-game advantage.

The third game also went to a tiebreak, with Dessouky coming out on top 12-10 to win the tournament for the first time.

He paid tribute to his compatriot after clinching a fifth PSA World Tour title.

"I want to congratulate Asal for an unbelievable week," Dessouky said.

"You played so well, you are number one material, you have to keep working hard and keep believing in yourself.

"I think we’re playing first round in the British Open, so we have to get on with that.

"This is one of the best venues in the world so we want to make it bigger and bigger."

Similarly, Dessouky's opponent in the final heaped praise on the event winner.

"I gave it more than 200 per cent," Asal said.

"Fares and I are good friends.

"I’m really happy that he’s back.

"His squash is unbelievable, his skills are unbelievable and I’m glad to see him back with a bang."

The next scheduled event on the PSA World Tour is the Platinum level Allam British Open, set to be held in Hull from March 28 to April 3.
