Mueller in turn made history by becoming the first Swiss player to reach the quarter-finals of the Professional Squash Association Platinum tournament. 

Mueller overcame the German 11-6, 9-11, 11-5, 12-10 and credited a new nutrition regime with facilitating his improving form and a victory which took 52 minutes.

"I've changed a few things, my diet changed, I tried to eat less meat and be more fish-based and have less milk," Mueller said.

"My body has been behaving for three quarters of a year now, and when you know your body is fit, you can play with a different attitude. 

"When I’m feeling good and confident I can hit winners from anywhere and I managed to back it up today."

Kandra had stunned Egypt's world number three Mohamed ElShorbagy yesterday.

Brother Marwan ElShorbagy was knocked out today, losing an all-Egyptian third-round clash versus Mazen Hesham 11-9, 9-11, 12-10, 4-11, 11-5.

Top seed Ali Farag reached the last eight in straight games and fellow Egyptian Tarek Momen saw off France's Baptiste Masotti in four.

Women's matches also went to seedings at the University of Hull.

Fourth seed Joelle King brushed off Egyptian Nada Abbas in straight games, while England's Sarah-Jane Perry also beat an Egyptian in three games - this time Farida Mohamed.

Home player Georgina Kennedy fought admirable but lost 11-9, 11-6, 5-11, 11-7 versus second seed Hania El Hammamy from Egypt.

In an underwhelming follow-up reminiscent of Kandra's exit, Joshna Chinappa - who yesterday upset Egyptian seed Salma Hany - lost to Belgium's Tinne Gilis in straight games.
