Turkey won its first title of the week to move into second place behind Indonesia in the medals table, and there were more medals for the United States and Mexico.

Neama Said, who won the senior IWF world title at 64 kilograms last year, moved up to 71kg and added the junior crown by making her last lift at 131kg.

That gave her a six-from-six 106-131-237, enough to beat the defending champion Olivia Reeves of the US.

The two 19-year-olds were separated by only 1kg after the snatch, which Reeves won, but the American missed her first two clean and jerks.

She finished 107-129-236, also a career best total by 1kg.

Mariana Garcia was third on 95-127-222, earning Mexico a fourth medal of the World Championships, the same number as the US.

There was a remarkably close finish in the men's 81kg when the top six athletes were separated by only 4kg and the top three all made the same total of 324kg - which would not have been enough to get on the podium in the lighter 73kg category yesterday.

Denis Poluboyarinov from Kazakhstan thought he had won with the final lift of the session but the jury overturned the referees' majority decision and declared it a no-lift.

A challenge by Kazakhstan failed and Poluboyarinov - who like his team-mate Egor Sherrer was making his first international appearance - finished fifth, one place and 1kg ahead of Sherrer.

None of the snatch medallists made the top three in clean and jerk, making it a very busy medal ceremony.

But the snatch winner Hakan Kurnaz of Turkey held on, just, and took the title by virtue of making the 324kg total before his rivals.

Kurnaz, 17, was third in the IWF Youth World Championships last October.

Both athletes who finished ahead of Poluboyarinov in the clean and jerk, Saba Asanidze from Georgia and Mahmoud Hosny from Egypt, could have overtaken Kurnaz if they had gone up 1kg more on their final attempts.

Hosny, whose first clean and jerk was a no-lift because he dropped the bar too soon, finished second on total with Asanidze third.
