This year's South American Youth Games were originally scheduled for 2021, but were postponed due to COVID-19.

Peru's capital Lima held the first edition in 2013 before Chile's capital Santiago hosted the second in 2017, the same year in which Paraguayan official Pérez López Moreira was elected as President of the ODESUR.

Pérez López Moreira, who is also a member of the International Olympic Committee, President of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee and a Board member of the International Tennis Federation, claimed at the Closing Ceremony at Independence Park in the Argentinian city that the Games had proved a real success.

"Rosarinos, be proud, they made the best ODESUR Youth Games," he said.

"Celebrate, they made the Games records with 2,420 athletes and officials, 518 referees and celebrate the families that you had here walking through this beautiful park."

The ODESUR President also congratulated the Organising Committee, ODESUR staff, Argentine Olympic Committee, athletes and volunteers on their efforts during the Games, and concluded: "I look forward to seeing you all at the next South American Games in Asunción 2022."

As they did at Lima 2013 and Santiago 2017, Brazil topped the medals table after all 664 events, followed by Colombia.

Brazil claimed 64 gold, 40 silver and 43 bronze medals, with Colombia securing 35 golds, 32 silvers and 26 bronzes.

Hosts Argentina placed third with 31 victories to their name, as well as 28 second-place and 54 third-place finishes.

Thirteen of the 15 countries who competed at the Games secured medals, with only Aruba and Guyana missing out.
