Gómez, who was today eliminated in the round of 16 at the International Boxing Association Women's World Boxing Championships here in Istanbul, is not only fighting against her opponents in the ring, but poverty outside of it.

The 90-minute feature Pequeña Guerrera or "Little Warrior" in Spanish, follows Gómez over three years in her attempt to qualify for Paris 2024.

It focuses on her life in Venezuela, a nation hit hard by poverty and shortages of essentials.

Gómez had a football career cut short by a car accident, turning to boxing and making her amateur debut in 2018. 

She still lives in poverty due to the economic crisis in the country, but looks to move to Edinburgh in the coming years after meeting Scottish boxing trainer Gary Young online through Instagram.

The Venezuelan has been offered a professional contract, but wants to first represent her country at the Games.

The documentary's production company is LS Films and the film is directed by Paul Sng.

British Academy of Film and Television Arts New Talent Award winner Sarah Drummond, Emmy-winning film producer Lindsey Dryden and Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh are all executive producers on the piece.

The narrative then follows Gómez to the Women's World Boxing Championships and is set to go on to Paris 2024.

Gómez was defeated by a 4-1 split decision in her under-57 kilogram category round of 16 bout today against Mongolian Namuun Monkhor.
