Perry took on 22^nd seed Sabrina Sobhy of the United States in what proved to be the game of the day, with Perry triumphing 8-11, 11-7, 11-8, 2-11, 11-8 in just under an hour.

She will face reigning world champion and second seed Nour El Sherbini in the quarter-finals, after the Egyptian cruised past Tinne Gilis of Belgium 11-5, 11-4, 11-5 in exactly half an hour.

Two more Egyptian players booked their quarter-final places today, with third seed Hania El Hammamy overcoming England’s Georgina Kennedy 11-9, 11-6, 11-8.

El Hammamy will take on compatriot Nour El Tayeb in the last eight, after she overcame Malaysian Sivasangari Subramaniam 11-5, 4-11, 11-5, 13-11.

El Tayeb will be hoping she can repeat her upset success against El Hammamy from the Black Ball Open when the pair meet in their scheduled quarter-final in the bottom half of the draw on Friday (May 20).

In the men’s draw, second seed and defending champion Ali Farag of Egypt was in cruise control in his match thrashing compatriot Youssef Ibrahim 11-3, 11-1, 11-2, with Ibrahim appearing to be hampered by an injury during the contest.

Farag will take on another Egyptian in the quarter-finals in the form of Marwan ElShorbagy, after the seventh seed overcame Nicolas Mueller of Switzerland 11-8, 11-8, 16-14.

Fourth seed Mostafa Asal also made his way into the last eight, with the Egyptian overcoming Saurav Ghosal of India 11-2, 11-7, 11-3.

Asal will take on fifth seed Diego Elias of Peru in the quarter-finals after he comfortably overcame Egyptian Youssef Soliman 11-4, 11-2, 11-3

Quarter-final action in the top half of the men’s and women’s draws is scheduled to take place at the Egyptian National Museum of Civilisation tomorrow, with men’s and women’s top seeds Paul Coll of New Zealand and Nouran Gohar of Egypt both due to be in action.
