Ireland needed no luck on the first day of finals at the International Boxing Association (IBA) Women's World Boxing Championships as Amy Broadhurst and Lisa O'Rourke put in two of the best performances of the competition to send their nation top of the medal table.

Broadhurst faced tough opposition in the form of Imane Khelif, who became the first Algerian women to make a world final.

After a feeling out process in the first, Broadhurst moved away in the second round and was able to seal the unanimous verdict, getting her arm raised to take the under-63kg title.

Joining them on the podium were the bronze medallists Parveen of India and Dutch boxer Chelsey Heijnen.

In the following bout, O'Rourke was inspired by her more-experienced compatriot, going on to win the under-70kg gold medal days after her 20th birthday at the Başakşehir Youth and Sports Facility.

She faced Mozambique's Alcinda Panguane who kept the bout tight in the first, but took some clean punches to the face in the third.

Panguane's silver is the best result for her nation, who had never won a medal at the World Championships before arriving in Istanbul.

Bronze went to Turkey's Sema Çalışkan and Valentina Khalzova from Kazakhstan.

Gabriele Stonkute ensured Lithuania won its first gold medal at the World Boxing Championships, using her stamina to come through in the second and third rounds, beating Poland's Oliwia Toborek by unanimous decision.

Australia's Jessica Bagley and Elif Güneri from Turkey claimed bronze.

Lin Yu-Ting secured her second gold medal at the World Championships after defeating Italy's Olympic bronze medallist Irma Testa by a 4-1 split decision verdict in the under-57kg final.

Little separated the pair in the first, but the Chinese Taipei boxer came into their own for their third world medal.

Lin won the 2018 world title in New Delhi, following it up with a bronze in 2019.

Winning bronze this time was Karina Ibragimova from Kazakhstan and India's Manisha.

Ayşe Çağırır got the hosts Turkey off to a flying start in the under-48kg, using the crowd to her advantage to roar back from behind against Kazakhstan's Alua Balkibekova, the score finishing 3-2 on a split decision.

Aldana Florencia Lopez of Argentina and Bulgarian Sevda Asenova completed the podium.

Finally, India's Nikhat Zareen triumphed in the under-52kg final, beating Thailand's Jutamas Jitpong by unanimous decision.

Bronze medals went the way of Zhaina Shekerbekova of Kazakhstan and Brazil's Caroline de Almeida.
