Home favourite Natalia Grossman won her second consecutive women's boulder International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) World Cup in Salt Lake City, with French youngster Mejdi Schalck clinching a maiden triumph in the men's event.

American world champion Grossman dominated much of the competition over the course of two days at Pioneer Park, and was the only climber to achieve four tops and four zones.

Her closest challenger was compatriot Brooke Raboutou, who finished second with three tops and four zones, a feat matched by Japan's Tokyo 2020 Olympic silver medallist Nonaka Miho in third place.

Jessica Pilz of Austria just missed out on the podium with her three tops and four zones, and was followed by compatriot Franziska Sterrer in fifth.

Sterrer had jointly top scored with Raboutou in the semi-finals earlier in the day.

In the men's competition, the 18-year-old Schalck posted four tops and four zones in the final to claim victory, having scraped through the semi-finals as the sixth-best performer.

Ogata Yoshiyuki of Japan was second after achieving his four tops and four zones in more attempts than Schalck, while fellow Japanese climber Kawamata Rei completed the podium with three tops and four zones.

Austria's Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist Jakob Schubert led the scoring in the semi-finals, but posted just one top and two zones in the final to place sixth overall.

Salt Lake City is due to host further events in the coming week, beginning with the IFSC Paraclimbing World Cup on Tuesday (May 24) and followed by a second boulder and speed World Cup from Friday (May 27) until Sunday (May 29).
