Four teams remain unbeaten after the opening day of pool action at the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) 3x3 Europe Cup in Graz, Austria.

In women’s Pool B second seeds France booked a quarter-final place after winning both of their matches - 20-15 against Switzerland and later 19-9 over Romania, topping the pool.

Switzerland secured their place in the knockout stages after finishing second in the group by overcoming Romania 18-12.

In Pool D fourth seeds Poland secured a last eight spot as group winners after victories by 22-8 over Cyprus and 21-16 against Lithuania.

Lithuania secured a quarter-final place as the second-placed team in the group by beating Cyprus 22-15.

Two of the quarter-finals are now confirmed with Poland taking on Switzerland, the 24th seeds, and France facing Lithuania, the fifth seeds.

Action in Pools A and C at Kasematten Schlossberg is due to begin tomorrow, with top seeds Germany and hosts Austria both featuring in Pool A, and defending champions Spain in Pool C.

In men’s Pool B second seeds Lithuania remain unbeaten after winning both of their matches, with a narrow 19-18 triumph over Hungary, followed by a 21-15 win over hosts Austria to seal top spot.

Austria qualified in second place after a 21-13 victory over Hungary.

In Pool D, Netherlands qualified in top spot following a 22-6 win over Azerbaijan and a 21-17 victory over Belgium.

Belgium secured second place in the group after a narrow 14-13 win over Azerbaijan.

Two men’s quarter-finals have also been decided following today’s action, with Netherlands due to face hosts Austria and Lithuania taking on Belgium.

Action in the men’s competition is due to move on to Pools A and C tomorrow, with holders and top seeds Serbia featuring in Pool A.
