Danish Olympian Rikke Ibsen cruised to a gold medal at the 25/50 metres European Championships in Wrocław in Poland.

The two-time air rifle world silver medallist comfortably outmatched Czech Republic’s Veronika Blažíčková 16-6 in the women’s 50m rifle three positions final to strive to glory at the WKS Śląsk Wrocław shooting range.

Initially the pair had progressed through the ranking match as the top two, notching 413.9 and 411.7 points respectively.

Ukraine’s Daria Tykhova finished third in the eight-athlete event after totalling 410.4.

Meanwhile, multi-time European medallist Volodymyr Pasternak partnered Anastasia Nimets to win the mixed team 25m rapid fire pistol event for Ukraine.

They defeated Czech duo Alžběta Dědová and Matej Rampula 17-13 in the final.

Ukrainian siblings Yuliya and Pavlo Korostylova secured bronze for their nation too, beating Czech opponents Anna Dědová and Martin Podhráský 16-12.

Yuliya Korostylova was the defending champion in the category, triumphing with Oleksandr Petriv at last year's Championships.

The competition is due to continue tomorrow and conclude on Saturday.
