The nation swept up all three titles in the men's events before winning two of three on offer in the women's competitions.

Two-time European champion Gabriel Soares was the standout performer in the lightweight men's single sculls after finishing in 7min 3.40sec to defeat Greece's reigning European conqueror Antonios Papakonstantinou by 2.02sec.

Slovenia's Rajko Hrvat sealed the final spot on the podium with a time of 7:08.66.

Alessandro Durante and Giovanni Ficarra, competing in the lightweight men's pair, recorded 6:47.69 to prove they were too good to beat, as Hungarian duo Bence Szabó and Kalman Furko followed in 6:51.49 and Czech nationals Jiří Kopáč and Milan Viktora came next 0.15secs after.

Italy secured the lightweight men's quadruple title in 5:56.66 as China took silver and Germany won bronze.

China clocked at 5:59.27 while Germany combined to post 5:59.47.

Meanwhile, Maria Zerboni and Samantha Premeri were victorious for the dominating nation in the lightweight women's pair, registering 7:38.19, with American duo Solveig Imsdahl and Elaine Tierney rowing to second place in 7:43.84.

Germany secured another bronze thanks to Sophia Wolf and Eva Hohoff recording 7:54.97.

Italy's final gold medal was won in the lightweight women's quadruple where they notched 6:38.14 to the United States, who could only finish in 7:00.17.

Romania's Ionela-Livia Cozmiuc won her first lightweight women's single sculls title with a time of 7:42.59 while The Netherlands' Martine Veldhuis took bronze for following in 7:44.48.

New Zealand's Jackie Kiddle claimed bronze after registering 7:44.98.

In the Para events, Britain won two golds in the PR3 men's pair and the PR3 women's pair.

Oliver Stanhope and Edward Fuller were triumphant in the men's event while Francesca Allen and Giedrė Rakauskaitė were celebrating in the women's competition.

Dutchman Marinus Corné de Koning was once again a world champion after taking the PR2 men's single sculls gold medal while Ireland’s Katie O’Brien triumphed in the PR2 women’s singles.

France were also victorious in PR3 mixed double sculls through Elur Alberdi and Laurent Cadot.

The World Rowing Championships are due to continue tomorrow.
