Tokyo 2020 champion Lisa Adams highlights a group of five athletes from New Zealand who made their Paralympic debuts in the Japanese capital, and their success has been recognised through presentations of their official Paralympic pins and numbers.

The 31-year-old Adams was unstoppable at the delayed Paralympic Games as she secured gold in the women's F37 shot put.

"This Paralympic pin represents a lot of hard work and dedication," said Adams, who is the country's 210th Paralympian.

"I’m excited to continue building on the success I have had so far representing Aotearoa New Zealand."

The quintet were awarded with their official Paralympic pins and numbers at the Disability Sport Auckland Awards, which was overseen by three-time Paralympic swimming gold medallist Cameron Leslie, who triumphed in the 150 metres individual medley SM4 at the Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio 2016 Paralympics.

Corbin Hart finished fifth in the men's KL3 Final B kayak event in Tokyo with a time of 44.182 seconds and was officially named as New Zealand's 215th Paralympian.

"It was a really special occasion to share with my family, especially considering they could not be at Tokyo 2020," said Hart.

"Their support means so much to me and I will wear this pin proudly."

Wheelchair rugby player Tainafi Lefono, sprinter Anna Steven, and shot putter Ben Tuimaseve were awarded with their number 218, 224, and 227 pins respectively.

"It was fantastic to celebrate and reflect on the achievements of these Paralympians," said Lynette Grace, deputy Chef de Mission for New Zealand at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

"Through their outstanding performances at Tokyo 2020 and their personal stories, they continue to inspire all New Zealanders.

"We look forward to seeing their future successes on the world stage."

At the Games, New Zealand won six gold, three silver, and three bronze medals as they finished in 12th place overall.
