Swimming at the Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) next year is set to be held at the pool used by Trinidad and Tobago’s world short course and Commonwealth Games silver medallist Dylan Carter.

The pool has been described as a "hidden gem" by Amateur Swimming Association of Trinidad and Tobago President Lindsey Gillette.

It forms part of a sporting complex at Couva which is set to host four CYG sports in 2023.

The aquatic centre, developed since 2016, includes pools built to the same specification as those for the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Olympics.

Trinidad is due to host four of the seven sports on the CYG programme at the complex.

The Caribbean Track Cycling Championship is due to begin on Friday (November 11) at the velodrome and will be seen as an important test event for the CYG.

Next August, the 2,500 capacity velodrome is set to host three days of competition in track cycling before the venue is transformed in around 24 hours for an eight team Fast5 netball tournament.

The nearby Ato Boldon Stadium has been designated as the ground for rugby sevens during the CYG.

Tobago is scheduled to stage competitions in athletics, beach volleyball and triathlon.

Athletes competing in Trinidad are set to be housed at the Hyatt Regency Hotel or the Radisson Hotel Trinidad, close to the waterfront in Port of Spain some 30 minutes drive from the Couva complex.

insidethegames understands that organisers are still considering a number of options for the Opening Ceremony including an event on the streets of Port of Spain.

A similar idea was used for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires.

A competition to find a mascot for the Games is expected to be launched in schools later this month.

The CYG are scheduled to run from August 4 to 11 2023.
