European Floorball Championships are set to be re-introduced from 2025, after an International Floorball Federation (IFF) General Assembly gave such a proposal the green light.

European Championships were played in 1994 and 1995, but phased out with the creation of World Floorball Championships.

A men's tournament is to be introduced in 2025, ensuring that the European Championship is played with a different gender to that year's World Championship.

A women's European Floorball Championship is expected to follow in 2026.

The tournaments will contain eight teams and be played over seven days.

The motion approved by the IFF General Assembly acknowledged the European Championships could grow to 12 teams.

The top seven European teams at the last World Championship and the host nation will qualify for the first European Championship.

The propsal which was approved had been tabled by the IFF Central Board.

Also approved at the General Assembly was a broadening of the scope of the "Future of Floorball" project.

The project is seeking to come up with a development plan which will guide the IFF in the look and feel of floorball.

Under the expanded terms, it will also address development of the sport.
