The event, taking place tomorrow and on Sunday (December 11) in the Emirati capital, is an opportunity for the governing body to prove International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach wrong following his comments in the Executive Board (EB) meeting this week.

The German said that "if a decision had to be taken today regarding the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028, the IOC EB would not be able to recommend the IOC Session to include boxing in the sports programme under the authority of the IBA."

Boxing events at Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 have been and will be managed by an IOC Boxing Task Force following the suspension of AIBA, which has since rebranded as the IBA, in 2019.

One of the core sessions at the Forum is named, "Sound governance - ensuring sound opportunities for athletes and IBA’s place in the Olympic Games."

On the panel for that, and also giving a keynote talk on governance integrity, is Professor Richard McLaren.

The Canadian lawyer compiled the eponymous report that officialised the corruption surrounding boxing at Rio 2016.

The McLaren report confirmed that corruption took place at the 2016 Olympic boxing tournament and that officials who didn't agree to cheat were weeded out in a culture of fear that was cultivated by the governing body, known then as AIBA.

Bach said that IBA's problems went beyond the remit of current President Umar Kremlev but the Russian has the perfect platform to address the concerns at the Global Boxing Forum.

Although Kremlev is not featuring on any of the integrity panels, a media conference on either day will provide the chance to directly address concerns looming over his organisation's future.

It is the third edition of the Forum, with the previous two taking place in Sochi and Yekaterinburg, both in Russia, in 2018 and 2019 respectively.

"We need to discuss the prospects of boxing with everybody involved in the sport," said Kremlev.

"That's the main goal of the Global Boxing Forum, which is a platform for open dialogue and knowledge sharing."

The IBA's "digital transformation" and exploration into the ever-growing esports market is also set to be discussed as well as the "challenges and solutions" of developing boxing worldwide especially in the likes of Africa and Oceania.

An Ordinary Congress is due to take place on December 11, although minimal details are provided at this stage, before the newly established IBA Champion's Night caps off the weekend.

Multiple world and Olympic champions are set to compete at the Conrad Abu Dhabi Etihad Towers venue including Uzbekistan's Bakhodir Jalolov, Frenchman Sofiane Oumiha and Roniel Iglesias of Cuba.
