It was Eitberger’s second World Cup triumph of the season and came on her 32^nd birthday, and following a fall during training.

Eitberger claimed the fastest time in the first run with a track record of 41.488sec, and was second fastest in run two in 41.511, on her way to a total time of 1min 22.999sec.

There was a podium on home ice for Elina Ieva Vitola, with the Latvian slider posting a time of 1:23.093 as she finished second.

Julia Taubitz was the second German on the podium as she finished third in 1:23.143, which included posting the fastest run two time of 41.500.

Meanwhile Austria’s Madeleine Egle, who has won three World Cup races this season, endured a day to forget as suffering with flu she came in last place after a big mistake in run one and a crash in run two.

Speaking afterwards Eitberger said: "The victory today is really a little birthday magic, and I fulfilled a birthday wish for myself with it."

Following her singles success, Eitberger then joined the International Luge Federation commentary team on their doubles coverage, where she made the announcement that this would be the last season that she would race in singles.

She also stated her aspiration to participate in the women’s doubles competition at the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.

In the men’s doubles there was home success for Latvian pairing Martins Bots and Roberts Plume, who recorded the fastest times in both runs, 41.361 and 41.281, on their way to victory in 1min 22.642sec.

Bots and Plume’s time of 41.281 was a new track record and helped claim a first World Cup success of their careers.

In second place were German duo Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt, the Olympic champions, who finished in 1:22.798, with Italians Emanuel Rieder and Simon Kainzwaldner completing the podium in 1:23.024.

There was more home success in the women’s doubles as Latvia’s Anda Upite and Sanija Ozolina triumphed in 1:24.926.

Upite and Ozolina claimed the fastest time on run one of 42.435, followed a second run time of 42.491, as they took the win.

Upite and Ozolina’s time of 42.435 was a new track record and helped to claim a first ever World Cup win in their careers.

Chevonne Chelsea Forgan and Sophia Kirkby of the United States finished in second in 1:25.138, with Jessica Degenhardt and Cheyenne Rosenthal of Germany in third in 1:25.261.

 The fastest second run time went to Italy’s Andrea Voetter and Marion Oberhofer with 42.473, but they could only finish fourth overall in 1:25.539.

Action is scheduled to continue tomorrow with the men’s singles and team relay disciplines.
