A record prize money fund is set to be on offer at this year's International Boxing Association (IBA) Men's World Championships in Tashkent.

The event, scheduled to take place from May 1 to 14 in the Uzbek capital, will see gold medallists in each of the 13 weight categories awarded $200,000 (£161,000/€183,000).

Silver and bronze medallists in each tournament will then earn $100,000 (£80,500/€91,500) and £50,000 (£40,000/€45,000), respectively.

The announcement came with 100 days to go until the beginning of the event.

The IBA is expecting "thousands of spectators" from around world to go to Tashkent for the Championships.

"The IBA is committed to providing the best possible experience for the athletes, the fans and the media," said the IBA.

"Together with the Uzbekistan Boxing Federation and the Local Organising Committee, IBA has been working hard to ensure that the event runs smoothly and that the boxers have the best possible conditions to showcase their skills.

"The countdown is on, and we can't wait to see the action unfold in Tashkent.

"IBA is looking forward to seeing boxing fans from the whole world to be part of the excitement."

The 2023 competition is set to be the first of either the women's or men's editions to be held in Uzbekistan.

The future host country is the fourth-most successful nation in the all-time medals table.

Since the first edition in 1974, Uzbekistan has won 15 golds, 15 silvers, and 19 bronze medals.

At the last IBA Men's World Championships in Belgrade, Cuba finished top of the medals table.

The won a total of five medals, including three gold, with Uzbekistan winning a silver and bronze.

The country's medals came in the lightweight division where Abdumalik Khalokov was beaten by France's Sofiane Oumiha, and Madiyar Saydrakhimov, a semi-finalist in the heavyweight. 

The Women's World Championships are also due to take place this year, scheduled from March 15 to 31 in New Delhi.

Both events would normally have been major qualifying events for the Olympic Games but, because of IBA's suspension by the International Olympic Committee, they will not count towards Paris 2024.
