Fourteen-year-old double national champion Hinano showed off her title credentials in the Emirati city with a statement second run.

She posted a score of 84.33 to lead the field which saw 16 skaters advance to tomorrow's semi-finals.

Finishing in her wake were British pair Sky Brown and Lola Tambling.

Brown, who became Britain's youngest ever Olympic medallist with a park bronze at Tokyo 2020, confirmed her place in the penultimate round with 82.00 points while Tambling made up the top three on 79.83.

Yesterday, Brown announced her intention to compete in both skateboarding and surfing at Paris 2024, despite the competition venues being separated by over 9,000 miles.

Skateboarding is due to take place in the capital, but surfing is scheduled to end on July 30 next year in Tahiti in French Polynesia.

If Brown was to compete in the double, she would have less than a week to prepare for skateboarding, with women's park scheduled for August 6.

At the Championships in Sharjah, Japan's Olympic gold and silver medallists Yosozumi Sakura and Hiraki Kokona, went through in ninth and fifth respectively.

Palmer topped the table in the men's quarter-finals with an opening run of 88.33.

Gavin Botter of the US finished the night's action in second place with 85.66 but was hospitalised after falling and breaking his arm on the second run.

If he is unable to compete this means that 17^th-placed Rune Glifberg from Denmark will take his place in the semi-finals.

Rounding out the top three was Olympic silver medallist Pedro Barros of Brazil who finished just in front of his countryman Augusto Akio with 85.64 points.

Competition is set to continue tomorrow with the penultimate rounds of both events scheduled.
