American Lee Kiefer secured her first gold medal of the season at the International Fencing Federation (FIE) women's Foil Grand Prix while Italy's Alessio Foconi won the men's tournament in Busan in  South Korea.

The American now has four podium finishes in five events, with two bronzes, one silver and her most recent gold.

The Tokyo 2020 gold medallist dominated Sera Azuma of Japan in the final 15-3 on route to the title.

Kiefer edged past Italy's Alice Volpi 15-12 in the semi-final, while Azuma also defeated Martina Sinigala, another Italian, which also ended 15-12.

On the men's side, Foconi, a four-time world champion, won the tournament to claim his first medal of the season.

He edged past Hong Kong star Ka Long Cheung in a tightly-contested final that ended 15-13.

On route to the final, Foconi swept past Frenchman Maxime Pauty 15-4 in the semi-final.

In the other semi-final, Ka Long Cheung defeated Kiefer's husband Gerek Meinhardt of the US 15-12.

The next Foil Grand Prix tournament is due to be held in Shanghai, China from May 19 to 21.
