The European Karate Federation Senior Championships are set to begin in Guadalajara, Spain tomorrow at the Palacio Multiusos Sports Hall, with qualification spots for the 2023 European Games on the line.

Last year's edition took place in Gaziantep, Turkey in May, where the hosts finished top of the medals table with seven golds, one silver and one bronze.

Croatia were second with two golds, one silver and one bronze, while Spain finished third with one gold, three silver medals and one bronze.

Defending champions Serap Ozcelik Arapoglu of Turkey, Anzhelika Terliuga of Ukraine, Eray Samdan of Turkey and Andjelo Kvesic of Croatia are all on the entry list this time around and will be looking to retain their title.

This will be the second time Guadalajara has hosted the EKF Senior Championships, after hosting the 2019 edition that saw Spain take first place with five golds.

The elimination rounds for the individual competitions are scheduled to take place tomorrow and Thursday (March 23), while the bronze medal match and finals are due to be held on Saturday (March 25).

The eliminations for the team competition are due to be held on Thursday and Friday (March 24), with the finals scheduled for Sunday (March 26).

The 2023 EKF Senior Karate Championships is set to feature more than 500 athletes from 48 different countries.

Athletes that finish in the top three in each category will qualify for the 2023 European Games, due to be held in Krakow, Poland, from June 21 to July 2.
