Kerri Einarson's side had a miserable start to day five in Sweden as they threw in the towel early in an 8-3 defeat after the eighth end to Daniela Jentsch's Germany.

A huge four-point haul in the eighth was deemed insurmountable for last year's hosts and bronze medallists.

However, they bounced back in the very next session with an 8-6 win over South Korea.

This time it was the Canadians that amassed a big late-game total as they scored three points in the tenth end to clinch a vital victory.

The win moved the world's highest-ranked side level in second with Italy in the standings, with both teams sporting a 6-3 win-loss record.

Defending champions Switzerland maintained their undefeated streak in the tournament as they now move to eight wins from eight.

They crushed New Zealand 9-1 in the morning session with their rivals downing tools after just six ends.

Although playing tougher opposition in the next fixture in the form of Italy, Silvana Tirinzoni and company still cruised to an 8-3 win.

"Today was very good," Tirinzoni said.

"The first few ends were difficult but I’m happy with how my team played.

"We just tried to analyse the ice as quick as possible.

"We keep talking with each other and make sure we are on the same page.

"My team are in great shape, the level they can keep to means they won't get tired through the week.

"But it's the same for all the teams with the amount of games we play."

Competition is set to continue tomorrow as the Swiss take on Norway next in the opening quartet of fixtures.

They then meet Denmark in the evening for their second match while Canada have just one game to play against Japan in the afternoon.
