Spain's Alvaro Romero secured his first snowboard cross title at the International Ski and Snowboard Federation Junior World Championships in Passo San Pellegrino, while Lea Casta of France was victorious on the women's side.

Romero defeated France's Aidan Chollet and Achille Leleu, as well as Canada's James Savard-Ferguson in the big final.

Chollet took second while his compatriot Leleu claimed third.

Romero finished third in the 2021 edition, waiting two years to finally witness glory.

"I knew it was going to be a very hard day because even though it was a Junior World Cup there was a high level," said Romero, according to the Royal Spanish Federation.

"In training on March 29 I was going very fast and throughout today, March 30, I knew that I was not going to leave anything on the track.

“In fact, I have passed first in all the rounds except in the Grand Final, which has been very tight until the last corner that I managed to pass my opponents.

"This gold is a great finish to a season in which I have made the podium in Veysonnaz in the World Cup and I have also been champion of Spain.

"It helps me, without a doubt, to prepare the new season with desire and enthusiasm and start with everything next year."

In the women's competition, Casta took home the title in the big final, edging past compatriot Camille Poulat, Australia's Josie Baff and Celia Trinkl of Germany.

Baff took home second while Trinkl secured the final podium position.

In the team event, Australian duo Baff and James Johnstone claimed the win.

France's team two, composing of Leleu and Poulat took second, while team one, which featured Casta and Chollet, were third.
