Last year's runners-up and hosts Canada will have a chance at redemption as they advance to the final to face 2021 runners-up Scotland at the World Men's Curling Championship in Ottawa.

Scotland barely edged past Italy in the semi-final, winning 9-8 at TD Place.

Italian skip Joel Retornaz had a chance in the 10th end to guide his nation to victory with a split for a possible three points.

After the measure, he only managed to accumulate two points after the third counter was out of the rings, forcing an extra end.

Scotland were able to win after making a draw to the eight-foot.

Earlier, Italy had defeated Norway 8-4 in the qualification round to book their place in the semi-final.

In the other side of the bracket, Canada had to win two games in order to advance to the final.

They faced four-time defending champions Sweden in the qualification game first, thrashing them 9-1.

In the semi-final, they faced Switzerland, the top seeds and who were on a roll during the round robin, losing just one game.

The game was tied at 5-5 in the 10th end before the Canadians scored two more points, despite not needing to use their last stone.

Scotland will be looking for their first title since 2009 and their sixth overall.

Italy and Switzerland will face each other in the bronze medal match to see who can take the final podium spot.
