Britain have won the women's team title for the first time at the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Turkey.

Alice Kinsella, Georgia-Mae Fenton, Jessica Gadirova, Ondine Achampong, and Becky Downie made history by achieving the feat with a combined score of 164.428 points at the Antalya Sports Hall.

"I'm so proud of this team, we put in some massive performances today and it feels so special to have won as a team," said Olympic bronze medallist and world champion Gadirova.

"Personally I'm so happy to have been able to deliver my routines for the team, it feels incredible to stand on the top of the podium with them."

Britain were followed behind by second-placed Italy on 161.629 and The Netherlands with a total of 158.896 points.

"It definitely feels nice to be back!" said Downie.

"It's been a long wait for me to get back into a position like this and I couldn't be more proud of the whole team.

"Going last up I knew I had to keep my focus on concentre on what I can do and I'm so happy to have produced that routine today – this feels incredible."

Today's competition also acted as qualifying for the individual finals where Gadirova and Fenton will be aiming for the podium in Friday's (April 14).

The former currently leads the women's all-around standings with 55.566 points from the four disciplines.

She claimed an initial first place in floor exercise and beam, and a second in the vault while being let down only on the uneven bars with a 12th-placed finish.

Triple European champion Zsófia Kovács of Hungary currently occupies second with 55.231 points while Italy's Alice d'Amato rounds out the top three on 54.899.

Competition is set to continue tomorrow in Turkey with the men's all-around final.
