Chiaki Matsumura and Yasumasa Tanida chalked up their third win of the Championship for Japan with impressive victories against the United States and Sweden in Group B at the Gangneung Curling Centre.

They scored twice in the final end to beat the US' Cory Thiesse and Korey Dropkin 7-5, and claimed an 8-7 extra end victory over Therese Westman and Robin Ahlberg of Sweden.

Martine Rønning and Mathias Brænden clinched a 6-4 win for Norway against Turkey's Dilşat Yıldız and Bilal Ömer Çakır with an end to spare, then eased past Austria's Hannah Augustin and Martin Reichel 6-2.

The Swiss team of women's world champion Briar Schwaller-Hürlimann and men's World Championship bronze medallist Yannick Schwaller earned its second win with an 8-7 extra end victory against Spain's Oihane Otaegi and Mikel Unanue, but was then beaten 7-2 by the US.

In the other Group B matches, Turkey earned their second win of the Championship by seeing off Germany's Pia-Lisa Schöll and Klaudius Harsch 12-6.

Austria earned their first victory by beating Germany 11-6, Sweden got off the mark with a 10-3 thrashing of England's Lina Opel and Michael Opel, and Spain overcame the English pairing 9-3.

In Group A, Scotland - whose team consists of Olympic champion Jennifer Dodds and silver medallist Bruce Mouat - made it back-to-back wins by defeating The Netherlands' Vanessa Tonoli and Wouter Gösgens 7-4.

Canada's Sochi 2014 gold medallist Jennifer Jones and Brent Laing suffered their first defeat 7-4 to Estonia's Marie Kaldvee and Harri Lill, and Australia's Tahli Gill and Dean Hewitt lost 9-3 to Czech Republic's Julie Zelingrová and Vít Chabičovský.

Hosts South Korea, represented by Kim Ji-yoon and Jeong Byeong-jin, lost 9-6 to Denmark's Jasmin Lander and Henrik Holtermann, while Hungary's Linda Joó and Lőrinc Tatár remain without a win after going down 8-4 to Italy's Stefania Constantini and Sebastiano Arman.

The World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship is due to continue tomorrow, with group matches concluding on Thursday (April 27).
