Organisers have reported "smooth progress" on preparations for the delayed 2022 Asian Games and Asian Para Games in Hangzhou.

The multi-sport events were due to be held in the Chinese city last year, but were postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hangzhou 2022 declared that all 56 competition venues were completed at the end of March last year.

In an update, the Organising Committee claimed "smooth progress has been made in venue construction and other preparatory work", creating "sound competition conditions for the events".

It also promised that business operations in Hangzhou, the capital and most populous city of Zhejiang with a population of 12 million, would be able to continue as normal during the Asian Games and Asian Para Games, ensuring normality for residents and minimising the impact on their livelihoods.

The Asian Games are scheduled for September 23 to October 8 this year, followed by the Asian Para Games from October 22 to 28.

The Olympic Council of Asia Coordination Committee visited Hangzhou in March, after which the organisation's director general Husain Al-Musallam praised insisted "the city is ready now, the sport infrastructure is ready, the accommodation is ready, the Athletes' Village is ready".

A total of 483 medal events in 40 sports representing 61 disciplines are due to be held at the Asian Games, with more than 10,000 athletes expected to participate.

The Asian Para Games, held under the Asian Paralympic Committee's auspices, is set to feature 22 sports across 19 venues, of which 17 are shared with the Asian Games.
