The 2019 world bronze medallist and three-times winner of the Pan American Championships has been chosen in a nine-strong Canadian squad that is set to compete at Santiago 2023.

She is joined by her brothers and fellow kyorugi athletes Braven and Tae-Ku Park, while her dad Jae Park has been named alongside Carla Bacco and Seoungmin Rim as Canada’s three coaches for the tournament.

"This time is extra special for me," said Skylar Park, who will be looking to go one better at Santiago 2023 after sealing silver at Lima 2019.

"I have the opportunity to [compete] not only with my dad in my chair once again but alongside both of my brothers as well.

"This will be both of their first times competing at a Games and I am so excited to experience it alongside them.

"The opportunity of getting to experience these Games together as a family as we all strive for the top of the podium is going to be so special."

Taekwondo Canada has also selected Marc-André Bergeron, Ashley Kraayeveld, Charlélie Mercier and Angelique Orozco, with all seven of the kyorugi athletes set to compete at the World Taekwondo Championships, scheduled to be held from May 29 to June 6 in Azerbaijani capital Baku.

World bronze medallist Jinsu Ha and Valerie Ho have been named as Canada’s two poomsae athletes for Santiago 2023.

As well as selecting three coaches, Taekwondo Canada has chosen Elwin Lau as head of medical and Allan Wrigley, the governing body’s high performance director, as team leader.

"With a combination of top World Taekwondo-ranked athletes and rising stars, our team will be ready to perform at the Games this fall," said Wrigley.

"We have strong medal potential in several kyorugi divisions and one of the best poomsae pairs in the continental union."

Taekwondo Canada said the nine athletes qualified based on their performances at the Santiago 2023 qualification tournament that took place in March.

All nominations are subject to approval by the Canadian Olympic Committee’s Team Selection Committee.

Canada has won 31 taekwondo medals since the sport made its Pan American Games debut for men at Indianapolis 1987 and for women at Mar del Plata 1995.

A team kyorugi event is set to be make its first appearance at the Games, with all competitions due to be staged from October 21 to 24 at the Contact Sports Center in Santiago.
