Egypt's Amina Orfi has become the youngest player ever to reach the third-round of the Professional Squash Association World Championships after beating the United States' number three Olivia Clyne in Chicago.

Orfi, at 15 years and 10 months, was formidable in the first two games as she took them 11-9 and 11-3 at Union Station.

Clyne then got back into it with an 11-7 win in the third before Orfi completed the win 11-6 in the fourth.

"I feel so happy, I didn't know I was the youngest player, so knowing this now motivates me," said world number 61 Orfi.

"The first game was crucial and I think that's what opened the match up for me.

"I'm not focusing on it [how far she can go in the tournament] and I'm just focusing on my game.

"Hopefully I can do well and continue on for the rest of the tournament."

A daunting challenge awaits Orfi as she is due to play compatriot and world number three Hania El Hammamy who got the better of another Egyptian in the form of Farida Mohamed.

Men's top seed Mostafa Asal avoided a shock defeat against world number 31 Omar Mosaad in another all-Egyptian clash.

He eventually battled to a five-game win 8-11, 11-4, 11-6, 8-11, 11-8 in a contest that lasted one hour and 21 minutes.

Asal is competing at his first tournament since the Canary Wharf Classic in March after receiving a six-month suspension for dangerous play.

He was taken to the brink by Mosaad, who was a beaten finalist at the 2015 World Championships.

Mosaad threatened to spoil Asal’s return to action after he battled back from 9-4 down to come back to within a point.

However, the 21-year-old - who topped the world rankings as recently as last month - was able to see out the win.

"I need these kind of matches, physically I'm okay," said Asal.

"Mosaad was playing superb squash and all credit to him.

"I need this to get my momentum for the tournament.

"3-2 is not what I was aiming for but I'll take the positives."

Asal will take on Joel Makin in the next round following the Welshman's win over Rory Stewart of Scotland.

Competition is set to continue tomorrow with the beginning of the third-round in both the men's and women's tournaments.
