Chile’s national handball and rugby teams attended the launch of La Reina's extracurricular activities programme supported by the Chilean Olympic Committee (COCH).

Students of the San Constantino School got the opportunity to participate in clinics held by the Chilean athletes.

"For the Chilean Olympic Committee it is very important to strengthen ties with the different communes, because we know how important it is to spread sport and physical activity in the school environment," said COCH vice-president Aquiles Gómez.

"This is a fundamental stage in which we want to be present."

Gómez attended the ceremony to launch the programme along with various authorities from the municipality as well as La Reina Mayor José Manuel Palacios who underlined the importance of the support from the COCH.

"We appreciate this instance of these extracurricular activities, but this is not possible without us developing collaborative strategies," added Palacios.

"Not only in sports, but also academically.

"For us it is very important to be able to approach positions with alliances such as the Olympic Committee and the 'Condores'."

La Reina is scheduled to stage the boxing and wrestling competitions during the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, with the La Reina Community Sports Centre set to play host to both.

Men's and women's boxing events are due to be held from October 22 to 26 next year.

Wrestling is expected to begin with men's and women's freestyle competition, running from November 1 to 3.

Men's Greco-Roman wrestling bouts are due to be the final events held in La Reina on November 3 and 4.
