A trio of Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) regional meetings have taken place in Trinidad and Tobago and Australia prior to the two countries' hosting of upcoming Games as well as one in Zambia.

The Caribbean nation hosted the third of the meetings prior to its staging of the Commonwealth Youth Games, scheduled to take place from August 4 to 11 this year.

Delegates from more than 20 Commonwealth nations and territories attended the event in Port of Spain which had strategy, events, and future planning on the agenda.

Workshops and extensive discussions were held on Commonwealth Sport’s new ten-year strategic plan, which is set to launch later this year.

"We have received a wonderful welcome from the people of Trinidad and Tobago as the nation prepares to open its arms to the Commonwealth," said CGF President Dame Louise Martin.

"Preparations for the Youth Games are at the forefront of all our minds, and there is not long to wait until we see some of the best young athletes and Para athletes in the Commonwealth showcasing their talents on an international stage later this year.

"From a wider perspective, we held engaging and stimulating discussions with our CGAs around our future strategy, which will underpin the direction of travel for the Commonwealth Sport Movement."

Brisbane hosted the other regional meeting prior to the Victoria 2026 Commonwealth Games and saw proceedings focus on planning and development, while workshops and discussion were held around the event's strategic plan.

"It was wonderful to see so many CGA representatives from both regions in Brisbane this weekend, for what was a highly productive and positive two days," said CGF chief executive Katie Sadleir.

"All the delegates showed incredible enthusiasm, contributing with passion and vigour to discussions on the future direction of the Commonwealth Sport movement.

"Being in Australia also allowed us to turn our minds towards the Victoria 2026 games, which are now less than three years away.

"Gathering feedback on our work as an organisation and engaging in dialogue with our CGAs to gain further understanding of their successes and challenges is what makes these meetings so fundamental, and I couldn't be happier with how things have gone."

Livingstone in Zambia was host of the first meeting before a fourth and final is scheduled to take place in London from June 5 to 6.
