The International Boxing Association (IBA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Uzbek State University of Physical Culture and Sports to develop "boxing, exchange knowledge and science studies between the parties".

The signing took place as IBA President Umar Kremlev dedicated the World Championships here to former Soviet boxer Andrei Borzenko, who is also a two-time heavyweight champion of the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic.

To honour Borzenko, a documentary named "Borzenko: The Ring Behind Barbed Wire", directed by Alexey Degtyarev and Elena Moshtal, was screened at the university.

IBA President Kremlev also took part in the laying of a foundation stone ceremony later.

After laying the foundation stone, the IBA distributed boxing equipment to all participants.

The Russian administrator was designated as an honorary professor of the university.

"In each area of life, this is very important to remember and honor (sic) the history," Kremlev said.

"Our sport goes back years, and we should not forget those, who helped boxing to excel with their achievements.

"Andrey Borzenko is one of those athletes who showed amazing personal qualities and strong character during tough times."

The IBA also announced that gold medallists of the World Championships here will be presented with a "Will to Win" trophy named after Borzenko.
