The Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) has reversed a decision to block its men's football team from competing at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games.

At a meeting on May 6, the BOA had decided to only send a women's football team to China because of the "poor performance" of the men's side.

However, this has been overturned after submissions by the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) which highlighted that the Asian Games features under-23 teams.

Bangladesh's men also made history at the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia, finishing second in their group to reach the knock-out stage for the first time.

They then lost to North Korea in the last 16.

BOA members held a secret ballot which resulted in the men's side being reinstated for Hangzhou.

"We have been informed by the BOA that both the men's and women's team will be going to Hangzhou," said BFF vice-president Kazi Nabil Ahmed.

"We are thankful to the BOA for this."

The country have confirmed that they will compete in 17 sports in all at the Games.

As well as football, they will also send athletes in archery, athletics, bridge, boxing, chess, cricket, fencing, gymnastics, hockey, golf, kabaddi, karate, swimming, shooting, taekwondo and weightlifting.

The BOA held its Asian Games fun run in Dhaka last week.

Runs have been held around Asia to build excitement for Hangzhou 2022.

BOA secretary general Shahed Reja Chowdhury opened the event, with Hangzhou 2022 Chef de Mission AK Sarkar also in attendance.
