The 24-year-old Team DSM cyclist sealed her success by winning the third and final stage after a sprint finish on The Mall.

Kool also won stage one in Colchester after being part of a 15-woman breakaway.

Former British champion and team-mate Pfeiffer Georgi chased down several counter-attacks and Kool positioned herself perfectly for the uphill ride to the line, before prevailing in the sprint.

On stage two, Kool crashed 1200 metres from the finish line but she retained the overall lead as race rules meant she was given the same time as the group she was riding with at the time.

American Chloé Dygert, the world time trial champion in 2019 and a double Olympic medallist and seven-time world gold medallist on the track, took the first European road race victory of her career after winning a sprint finish in Maldon.

Kool picked herself up from the injuries suffered from her crash to win on The Mall, where the stage also started before a circuit around London.

She won a bunch sprint after a three-rider breakaway was reeled in on the final lap, appearing late to edge Dygert who had made an earlier break for the line.

Dygert, of Canyon–SRAM, finished second overall with Britain's Trek–Segafredo rider Lizzie Deignan third in the general classification.

It was the sixth win of the season for Kool but the first stage race success of her career on the International Cycling Union Women's World Tour.

"I was in a lot of pain this morning but I think in the race I switched it off and then the team delivered me perfectly, this is really a team win," said Kool, who won the general classification from Dygert by 11 seconds.

At one point the breakaway riders were so far clear of the peloton that they were the virtual race leaders, but Kool kept calm as other teams helped reel them in.

"I was quite confident because it was not on us because Canyon needed the seconds to move up in general classification," said Kool. 

"For us it was actually the perfect situation, the bonus seconds were gone, so actually we stayed really calm and they made the chase. 

"Even Trek helped so that was fine for us in the end."

Dutchwoman Demi Vollering of SD Worx is the overall leader of the Women's World Tour.

The Tour de Suisse Women between June 17 and 20 is the next race on the circuit.
