A total of 178 athletes have been selected to represent Britain at the upcoming European Games in Kraków-Małopolska.

BMX freestyle rider Charlotte Worthington and modern pentathlete Joe Choong, both reigning Olympic champions, headline the squad that is set to head to Poland for this month’s Games.

Britain are due to contest 18 disciplines including archery, artistic swimming, badminton, boxing, breaking, canoe slalom, canoe sprint, diving, fencing, modern pentathlon, mountain bike, rugby sevens, shooting, sport climbing, table tennis, taekwondo and triathlon.

The event will mark the first time that Britain will compete in breaking at a senior Games with B-Boy Karam and B-Boy Sunni both poised to take to the floor.

Ranjou Tomblin will also make history as the first male athlete to represent Britain in artistic swimming.

Nineteen athletes will return for their second European Games while shooters Amber Rutter and Seonaid McIntosh, alongside table tennis players Liam Pitchford and Paul Drinkhall, will each compete at their third.

Worthington and Choong are among several Olympic gold medallists in the team with others including taekwondo fighter Jade Jones and canoeist Joe Clarke.

Paul Ford remains as Chef de Mission having undertaken the role at Minsk 2019 where Britain claimed six golds, nine silvers and eight bronzes to rank ninth in the standings.

"It’s a huge privilege once again to take such a talented group of athletes to compete against Europe’s finest at these Games," said Ford.

"Crucially, the 2023 European Games offers several qualification opportunity for Paris, providing a great benchmarking exercises looking ahead to next year.

"We will focus our support on creating the best performance environment for our athletes as well as fine-tuning our preparations for 2024."

Qualification for Paris 2024 is set to be on the line in many disciplines, with direct quota spots available in archery, artistic swimming, boxing, breaking, canoe slalom, diving, modern pentathlon, rugby sevens, shooting and table tennis.

GB Boxing has selected a 13-strong team comprising of Commonwealth Games gold medallists Delicious Orie, Lewis Williams, Reese Lynch and Rosie Eccles.

The International Olympic Committee will run the event after the International Boxing Association was stripped of the rights to do so due to ongoing governance concerns.

"The Paris Olympic cycle is shorter than the usual four years and means this qualifying event has come around very early, so this will be a test for the boxers," said Rob McCracken, performance director for GB Boxing.

"The European Games is always a top-quality competition and I expect this one to be especially challenging.

"It will be competitive in every weight class and our boxers will need to be at their best to secure qualification as they are competing for a relatively small number of Olympic places."

Athletes across badminton, BMX freestyle, mountain bike, taekwondo and triathlon will be competing for ranking points for Paris 2024 qualification.

The Games are due to be staged in Kraków-Małopolska from June 21 to July 2.
